As of 28 May 2012 the process of registering a business name in Australia will change. Previously each state in Australia operated their own business name registry which caused issues for businesses who operated in more than one state. In Queensland up until 28 May 2012 the Office of Fair Trading will continue to be in control of business names registration however after this date the Australian S…ecurities and Investments Commission will take over. If you currently have a business name registered with the Office of Fair Trading it will automatically transfer to the new ASIC register and your renewal notice will be sent by ASIC when it is due. If you would like to find out how you can best protect your business name and other intellectual property give us a call for an obligation free discussion.
